Both
PrestoStore and eBay promote items for
sale using several of the same
internet-based marketing techniques.
For example, both services
submit items to Google Base for
inclusion in Google Product Search.
Both services optimize seller
listings for search engine placement (SEO)
and provide RSS Feeds and Site Maps.
However,
there are major differences in how
PrestoStore and eBay handle the
Internet traffic generated from their
sellers' listings.
eBay routes all traffic
directly to their network, hosted at
ebay.com.
In contrast, PrestoStore sends
traffic directly to each seller's
PrestoStore, hosted at that seller's
domain name (www.yourname.com).
These differences in how
PrestoStore and eBay handle web
traffic impact sellers' results in several
ways:
-
Google
Product Search sends traffic to
ebay.com. As a result, eBay
items are forced to be listed for sale in
Google Product Search with a
seller name of "eBay",
eliminating any reference to the
actual seller.
With PrestoStore, items are
submitted to Google Base
individually by seller, ensuring
that Google Product Search
displays the seller's actual
name and that traffic is sent
directly to the seller's domain
name (www.yourname.com).
-
RSS
Feeds are important so
interested shoppers
can find new content regarding a
seller's items for sale.
Although RSS Feeds are
provided in eBay, they are
available only by searching within
their
main site, ignoring individual
eBay Stores and placing listings
from multiple sellers within the
same feed.
On the other hand, PrestoStore provides each
seller with their own individual
RSS Feed, containing only items
for sale from that particular seller.
Best of all, PrestoStore
creates and maintains each
seller's RSS Feed automatically,
updating it whenever necessary
based on content in the seller's PrestoStore.
-
Site
maps are critical in helping
automated search engines find
content on any web site.
However, eBay's single site map points only to
information on how to use eBay,
providing no direction for search
engines or visitors to any seller's
item listings.
PrestoStore creates and
hosts individual, unique site maps for
each seller, so search engines and
shoppers can easily find all of a
seller's items for sale.
PrestoStore even takes the
added step of submitting each
seller's site map individually
to Google Web Master Tools, so all
PrestoStore sellers can receive
priority listings in Google's
search results.
